DESTINATION: Trails surrounding Mike Harris
ACTIVITY: Discussion of various technology available for the backcountry, followed by a hike with instruction for use of smart-phone based navigation.

Doug has been a volunteer with search & rescue for over 10 years and continually looks for ways to improve his backcountry knowledge and experience, including the use of technology.
A variety of technology exists for navigation, communication and emergency notifications. We will discuss various technology and devices that can be used in the backcountry. Examples of devices will be available to review.
A hike on the trails surrounding Mike Harris will follow, using smartphone based navigation.
Please bring a smartphone, water, snacks and clothing appropriate for the weather.
Participants should download a free 7-day trial of the GAIA iOS or Android app AND maps for the Victor area prior to this event.
Participants may also download the Avenza Maps app (free!) for iOS and Android. Please also download USGS topo maps (also free!) for the Mike Harris area.
